The
Scarlet Pimpernel (Richard E. Grant, Elizabeth McGovern,
Martin Shaw, 1998)
Another crack at a small-screen version of the Pimpernel
that fared well. Grant received much acclaim for his portayal
of Sir Percy. His acting was not quite as over-the-top as
Anthony Andrews some 15 years earlier but certainly not
lacking in foppish behaviour. Martin Shaw was a strange
casting for Chauvelin when you consider the role had previously
been played by actors of the caibre of Ian McKellen and
Raymond Massey.

Elizabeth McGovern and Richard E. Grant
lead the cast.

Grant plays the foppish Blakeney well
... yet remains convincing as a man of action once he
dons the Pimpernel garb.
