Perfectly foppish

The Scarlet Pimpernel (Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour, 1982)
This was a 1982 made for television production widely regarded as one of the best cinematic recreations of Baroness Orscy's character, even if it deviates somewhat from the book. This series was singled out by many for the quality of the acting. Andrews, at the time, was still basking in the glory of having played an effete Sebastian in Brideshead Revisited. He goes over the top in this role and is perfectly foppish as Sir Percy. Of all the celluloid Pimpernels, he was the dandiest. One of the highlights of the film is the appearance of Sir Ian McKellen as Chauvelin.

Anthony Andrews plays the dandy perfectly. Pictured here with Jane Seymour.

Ian McKellen adds dimension to the role of Chauvelin.

McKellen is widely regarded as one of the finest screen and stage actors working today.
